Frequently
Asked Questions

On this page,
goldholes.net
will try to answer some of the FAQ's
we get regarding piercing, pierced jewelry and related topics. These
are general answers and we always welcome your comments, questions and
suggestions.
Sizing
There are two major factors
to be concerned with here: The size (thickness) of the piercing
and jewelry, and the overall size of the piece of jewelry (usually inches
or centimeters).
The size of the piercing is usually referred to as the gauge. Normal

are 14g & 16g. (12g available

Pricing
The pricing of goldholes.net
jewelry is based on the craftsmanship involved AND the amount of precious
metal (gold or platinum), denoted by "karat" (kt).
goldholes.net
uses primarily 14kt, 16kt and 18kt gold. A higher k-number (i.e.
24k) is softer and will damage more easily. It is generally too
soft for body jewelry

Common Types of Piercings:
AMPALLANG:
A horizontal piercing through the head of the
penis crossing the urethra.
This type of piercing heals slowly.
APADRAYAVA:
A vertical piercing of the penis head. This type of piercing
heals slowly.
CLITORAL:
The clitoris is similar in structure to the male glans but, since
it is considerably smaller and this increases the chances of irritating
the nerves, this type of piercing is rare. It is painful and awkward
and heals slowly.
DYDO/DYDOE:
Through the ridge of side of the penis head, normally on the side
parallel to the head. This is a slow healer and can easily tear.
EAR:
Any piercing of the ear, most commonly of the lobes and areas immediately
above. Healing time varies dependent on the location.
EARL:
This is a piercing through the bridge of the nose and can be a tricky
healer.
Foreskin:
The foreskin can be pierced on either side or both enabling the piercing
to pass through both sides and close off the penis (know as infibulation).
Heals reasonably quickly.
FRENUM:
Through the skin that attaches the foreskin to the penis head.
This is a fairly quick healing piercing.
GUICHE:
Through the base of the scrotum between the legs. Especially
difficult for active males such as cyclists. Heals moderately quickly
if not irritated.
HAFADA:
Any piercing through the main body of the scrotum. A moderately
slow healing piercing.
INNER LABIA (Labia Minora):
Through either, or both, of the inner labia. This enables ring(s)
to be added closing the opening if so desired (infibulation).
LABRET:
A piercing between the lower lip and chin, usually centered.
LIP:
Any where around the mouth.
LORUM:
A horizontal piercing through the scrotum where it joins the base
of the penis or through the skin on the underside of the penis.
A slow healer.
MADISON:
In the front of the neck between collar bones.
MADONNA:
Either side of the upper lip.
MOUTH LABRET:
See "Labret"
NAVEL:
One of the most common piercings, this is usually done at the top
or bottom of belly button and heals relatively quickly if not irritated
by clothing.
NECK MADISON:
See "Madison"
NIPPLE:
Another of the more popular but can be a slow healer because of irritation
and will close quite quickly if the ring is left out.
NOSE EARL:
See "Earl"
NOSTRIL:
Another of the more popular piercings, usually lower on the nostril
especially if you desire to add a dangle.
NUCHAE:
Back of the lower neck just above the shoulders.
OUTER LABIA (Labia Majora):
A fairly quick-healing piercing through either of the outer labia.
PA or PRINCE ALBERT:
Into the urethra from outside the penis head, most commonly below
the head (especially if you desire to wear a ring. Allegedly derived
from the men from the time of Prince Albert wore these to keep their pride
down while dressed. This is a fairly rapid healer.
PREPUCE:
Through the hood of the clitoris, often in such a way that the ball
of the ring comes in direct contact with the clitoris.
PUBIC (Male):
Through the area above the penis, a fairly slow healer.
PUBIC (Female):
Any piercing in the pubic area. Healing varies depending on
the exact location.
SEPTUM:
Through the ridge of flesh above the lip and below the nose.
A fairly slow healer but can be kept discreetly open with a "keeper."
TONGUE:
Any piercing of the tongue, although usually towards the tip.
This is a piercing that requires special care to avoid infection and can
interfere with speech and eating for some time.
CARE
ALL piercings require
extreme care to avoid
infection and simple irritation. Allowing proper time to heal is
integral to this. If bleeding or irritation occurs, it's best to
leave the piercing uncovered and open to the air as much as possible,
dressing it only at night or under clothing.
Fresh piercing should be cleaned. Be sure to choose an experienced,
professional piercer and follow his/her instructions to the letter.
Be sure to also clean your own hands BEFORE cleaning the piercing.
Cleanliness is ESPECIALLY important with "internal" piercings
such as oral and genital. For oral piercings, it is especially important
to use a good antiseptic mouthwash solution after eating, drinking, sleeping
or smoking. However, be careful with antiseptic solutions as they
can dry and otherwise irritate the piercing. Intimate oral relations
should also be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
Be careful to avoid "tugging" or pulling on a piercing, especially
newer ones and avoid getting a new piercing wet. Shower instead
of tub-bathing and avoid swimming and hot tubs.
If a new piercing oozes a little fluid, wash your hands first and then
remove the fluid gently with a sterile pad or swab soaked in a sterile
solution and clean the jewelry as well. The piercing should become
more comfortable in a short time.
IF soreness does not abate, or if swelling, bleeding or "ooze"
continues, contact your piercer or your doctor. Do NOT remove
the jewelry unless instructed to do so by the piercer/doctor.
This can increase the chances of losing the piercing or opening it up
to infection.
In all cases, follow your piercer and/or doctor's directions to
the letter.
